La Revolución Silenciosa (The Silent Revolution) is a series of photographs quoting an exclusive genre of Latin American baroque from the 16th and 18th centuries: the viceregal painting of angels and apocryphal angels. These are not literal quotes, but operations contaminating the originals with elements from other periods of the continent’s history and its particular art history. On these portraits we find objects associated with how the Cold War was experienced in South America, with the inherent problems related to Latin America’s specific cultural and racial mixes, and to gender issues, for example, the androgynous angel faces.
